You could probably find it (the fix) though not sure if still working, not sure how long their fix update extended the security certificate into the future. Someone in the group here had a solution, small program that updated the security certificate for Tivo desktop. There was an issue, something with the security certificate. Never used Tivo desktop Plus but I was still using regular Tivo desktop (Win 7) within the past year so. If Wifi there would still be ways to do it (ie maybe disable the wireless adapter in device manager in Win 7, leave it active in Win 10.) If everything is going well with Win 7 now you might want to stop connecting with it a bit before they are going to discontinue support, that way you won't keep getting those messages specifying that the OS is no longer supported. If you connect the computer to the net with Ethernet you could actually boot Win 10 normally, when you boot Win 7 you unplug the Ethernet cable so it does not connect/update. But if you are going to use the computer offline anyway you can keep Win 7 intact. I'm not interested in installing and running PyTivo, KMTTG, VideoReDo, 3rd party codex, etc.Ĭlick to expand. Can't answer all your questions but if it is working on Win 7 right now have you considered installing Win 10 on a separate partition or even separate drive? Pretty sure in 2020 Microsoft is going to stop support for Win 7. when my TiVo Premier Lifetimes die, I will move on to just using PlayOn, or similar, and just want to be able to play my old TiVo in the most secure way possible. Any thoughts on why Desktop PLUS would have issues, but just Desktop works fine? I just used TiVo Desktop on Win 7 a few minutes ago and it worked fine. I don't remember what issues adding PLUS caused.
Is there anything that I need to consider during installation? (I've read a little about Windows certificates, Windows updates causing issues, etc)ģ) The last time I install TiVo Desktop PLUS on this Windows 7 computer (for conversions), I had problems and ended up just leaving it with TiVo Desktop 2.8.3. Obviously things change.Ģ) I may leave TiVo Desktop on the updated Win 10 system for a while.
Last year, I downloaded a trial of Windows DVD Player on a family members Win 10 system with TiVo Desktop 2.8.3 on it and it played the files just fine. In short, this computer could eventually just be an offline computer that runs some older programs (that was actually the plan before the Win 7 May Security update corrupted some Windows files - don't want to go there) and media - like TiVo files.
I've read through some threads, but don't see exactly what I am looking for.ġ) IF I just want to play my existing TiVo files on the clean Windows 10 install, do I have to install the TiVo Desktop software to get the Codex and TiVo Media Access Key to play, or is it possible to just play with Windows DVD Player in the Windows 10 app store?ġb) If I wanted to later remove TiVo Desktop, is there a way to just play the videos without the outdated Tivo Desktop program on the computer? The existence of the basic TiVo program (currently free for download), will probably garner far more attention than the $24.95 Plus edition nonetheless, the release of the application itself is further evidence of the technological might of the iPod.I'm going to convert a Windows 7 system to Windows 10 and wanted to ask a couple of questions before I do. There is no word yet on whether this has been changed since tech analysts first cried wolf after the project's initial announcement last year.Ĭlearly, the TiVo Desktop Plus will only appeal to the most hardcore television tech users. Detailed specifications of desktop monitors, smart TVs and other types of displays. More legitimate criticisms surround the length of the transfer process, which can reportedly take up to two hours.
After all of these steps are complete, the user can finally download the show onto their portable device. Users must first transfer the program from the TiVo set to a PC, then use TiVo software to convert the selected show into a format compatible with the iPod itself. Criticisms of the system abounded in its difficult-to-use interface. Plans to launch a TiVo-to-Portable network were first announced in November of last year. As you might expect, the premium edition, called TiVo Desktop Plus, is available for a fee of $24.95 USD. Like most software of this kind, a premium version exists that allows users to transfer shows to a host of different portable gadgets, including the iPod, Sony Playstation Portable (PSP), and phones from Treo and Nokia. The new application allows TiVo users to transfer their favorite TV programs directly to computer, and then onto portable devices. With the iPod phenomenon creeping into each corner of Mother Earth, TiVo has jumped into the mix with their own Desktop application for Windows.
